Verification of secondary education
Before you enroll in our General Medicine or Dentistry degree programmes and you obtained your secondary education outside the Czech Republic, your educational background must be formally verified by our faculty (MED MUNI) or officially recognised by relevant Czech authorities. Please refer to the options outlined below.
A) INTERNAL VERIFICATION OF SECONDARY EDUCATION VALID FOR STUDIES AT MED MUNI

General verification process
- After successfully passing the entrance examination, you are required to submit your Secondary school leaving certificate (High school diploma).
- The document must be submitted as an officially certified copy of the original certificate bearing the required signatures and stamps.
(For more details, please see the Document verification methods tab.) - If the certificate is issued in a language other than Czech, Slovak, or English, the certified copy of the original certificate must be accompanied by an official translation into Czech or English.
(For more details, please see the Official translation requirements tab.) - The faculty may also require further documents (e.g. transcript of records, marksheets of individual grades, etc.) as well as additional information about the foreign secondary education including a certificate of a relevant body located abroad that the given secondary school was entitled to provide secondary education at the time of the applicant’s study, and a certificate of the given secondary school or another relevant body located abroad that the graduate of the secondary education programme at the foreign secondary school is entitled in that foreign country to apply for admission to study in a bachelor’s degree programme or a long-cycle master’s degree programme.
- The verification process may be subject to a fee of CZK 990, payable via the Masaryk University Shopping Centre.

The way your document must be verified depends on the country where your diploma was issued. There are three possible options:

1 NO VERIFICATION REQUIRED
If the Czech Republic has a bilateral agreement on legal assistance with the country where your diploma was issued, your documents are accepted without any additional verification of signatures or stamps.

2 APOSTILLE
If your diploma was issued in a country that is a signatory to the Hague Convention, the signatures and stamps on your document must be verified with an apostille.
The apostille is issued by the competent authority in the country where the document was issued.

3 SUPERLEGALIZATION
If your diploma was issued in a country that is not a signatory to the Hague Convention, your document must be verified through superlegalisation.
This usually means:

verification by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (or another competent authority) of the country where the school is located, and
-
verification by the Czech embassy or consulate in that country.

If your Secondary school leaving certificate (High school diploma) is not issued in Czech, Slovak, or English, you must submit an official translation into Czech or English.

The translation must be prepared by a certified (court-appointed) translator.
A list of certified translators in the Czech Republic is available on the website of the Ministry of Justice of the Czech Republic.
Diploma from Slovakia, Germany, Hungary, Slovenia or Poland
The Czech Republic is bound by bilateral agreements on mutual recognition of educational qualifications with Hungary, the Republic of Poland, the Republic of Slovenia, the Federal Republic of Germany and Slovak Republic.This applies only to certificates under the education system of the mentioned countries listed below.

- Hungary: Érettségi bizonyítvány
- Poland: Świadectwo dojrzałości
- Slovenia: Maturitetno spričevalo
- Germany: Zeugnis der Allgemeinen Hochschulreife
What needs to be done?
- Submit an officially certified (notarized) copy of the original of the final certificate.
- If the document is not in English, Czech or Slovak, submit its official translation attached to the certified copy of the certificate as well.
- The verification fee is not charged.

Diploma from another country
According to Directive No. 2/2019, a Secondary school leaving certificate (High school diploma) can be accepted for internal verification if it meets the following two conditions:

The certificate allows the holder to apply for a bachelor’s degree programme or a long-cycle master’s degree programme in the country where it was issued.

The certificate was issued by an institution that is officially authorised to provide secondary education in accordance with the laws of the respective country.
What needs to be done?
- Submit an officially certified (notarized) copy of the original of the final certificate verified in accordance with international obligations of the Czech Republic (for further details, please see the Document verification methods tab above).
- If the document is not in English, Czech or Slovak, submit its official translation attached to the certified copy of the certificate as well.
- Make sure the document contains all stamps, notary clauses, interpreter clauses, certifications of the authenticity of signatures, etc.
- Prepare a notary certified copy of the authorization of the school to provide their students with secondary education (accreditation); it can be substituted by a link to an official register (e.g. the register of the secondary schools on the Ministry of Education or another relevant authority website) emailed to the contacts above.
- The faculty may require additional documents for verification purposes (e.g. transcripts, reports or marksheets for individual years, etc.); the applicant will be informed of this fact by email.
- Pay the verification fee in the Masaryk University Shopping Centre.

International Baccalaureate
What needs to be done?
- Please, share your IB results with Masaryk University through the IB website. No further action is necessary.
- In case we do not get an access to your IB results, you have to submit a certified copy of Diploma of the International Baccalaureate authenticated by an Apostille stamp and a notary certified copy of IB Diploma Programme Results. The documents can be requested on IB website.
- The verification fee is not charged.

European Baccalaureate
What needs to be done?
- Submit an officially certified (notarized) copy of the European Baccalaureate certificate with an official translation into Czech or English attached to the certified copy of the certificate (translations are not required for certificates issued in Slovak or English)

GCE A-levels
Please note that applicants who attended high schools under the British educational system have to submit certified copies of the following documents (choose the one that is applicable).
- THREE A-LEVEL EXAMS supported by GCE A LEVELS CERTIFICATES
- A BTEC LEVEL 3 NATIONAL EXTENDED DIPLOMA
- A combination of a BTEC LEVEL 3 NATIONAL DIPLOMA and ONE A-LEVEL EXAM
What needs to be done?
- The submitted documents must be authenticated
- either with an Apostille stamp in compliance with the Hague Convention (the apostille authorities in relevant countries are available on the HCCH website
- or superlegalized by Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country where the certificates were issued as well as the relevant Embassy of the Czech Republic (the list of the embassies).
- These documents are always issued in English language so the certified translation is not required.
- Pay the verification fee in the Masaryk University Shopping Centre.

GED diploma
Please note we accept electronic versions of GED documents. The required documents for verification are as follows.
- GED e-diploma
- GED e-transcript
What needs to be done?
- As you are not permitted to forward your GED documents to any third party, please instruct GED to email both the documents directly to our department. The email address to which the documents must be sent is zpilatova@med.muni.cz.
- Pay the verification fee in the Masaryk University Shopping Centre.
B) RECOGNITION OF SECONDARY EDUCATION VALID AT ALL CZECH UNIVERSITIES AND EMPLOYMENT (NOSTRIFICATION)
If applicants wish to have their education recognized for use within the Czech Republic – for example, for further studies or employment – they need to go through the recognition process.
The applicant will have to apply for the Recognition of Secondary School Education at an regional authority.
