« Ma thèse en 180 secondes » (MT180) – "My thesis in 180 seconds"

The association Gallica and the French Institute in Prague are organising for the Czech Republic the 3rd Central European edition of the competition « Ma thèse en 180 secondes » (MT180) – "My thesis in 180 seconds" . In a maximum of three minutes, candidates will have to present their thesis in French, using a single slide and try to convince the jury and the public! To do so, they will have to be clear and convincing, possibly using humour!

Created in 2012, MT180 is now held in nearly 30 countries: it allows doctoral students to talk about their research work to the general public by learning how to explain a complex subject in simple terms. From mathematics and literature to biology and architecture, all themes are accepted.

The candidates will have to participate in the Czech online selection to try to get their place in the « Ma thèse en 180 secondes » competition in Central Europe, in Krakow. The winner of the Central Europe competition will qualify for the international final in Paris.

Eligibility

- The candidates must be registered as doctoral students in a Czech University for the current academic year (2020-2021) or have obtained his/her doctorate in the two previous academic years, i.e. 2019-2020 and 2018-2019.

- Have informed their thesis supervisors of their participation in the competition.

- Present a sufficient state of progress of the doctoral research project.

- Express themselves in French (the MT180 competition does not require the thesis to be written in French).

How to apply?

- The candidate must have completed the application form before the February 19th, 2021.

 

Provisional calendar

- February 19, 2021: Deadline for applications

- March 3 & 4, 2021: Recording of the thesis presentation (180 sec.)

- March 8 to 12, 2021: Public vote online 

- Week of March 15: Announcement of the winners of the Czech selection (Decision of the Jury)

- May 2021: Central European final at the Jagiellonian University, in Krakow

- Autumn 2021: International final in Paris
