Popis Background: The aim of this single centre study was to prospectively evaluate the safety of early CEA in patients with symptomatic carotid stenosis (sCAS) suffering transient ischemic attack (TIA) or non-disabling acute ischemic stroke (AIS). Methods: Consecutive symptomatic patients due to sCAS (50% or higher) underwent early (within 14 days) CEA between December 2009 and April 2016. Primary outcomes were perioperative stroke, myocardial infarction (MI) or death. Six of the patients took part in the Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic grant (no. 15-33437A). Results: A total of 61 patients with sCAS underwent early CEA. Urgent CEA (within 48 hours) was performed in 10 cases (16%). The primary outcomes of stroke, MI and death were 3.3% (95% confidence interval 0–12.0%), 0% and 0%. Conclusion: Our findings indicate that the risk of early CEA in consecutive unselected patients with non-disabling AIS or TIA due to sCAS is acceptable when the procedure is performed early.
