EPIDEMIOLOGY OF STROKE IN CHILDHOOD IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC

Popis Background And Aims: Epidemiological studies give important view on many aspects of stroke in children. Methods: Nationwide population-based observational descriptive study enrolling population less than 18-year-old was conducted using data from 2010 to 2018. The analysis has been developed using data from National Health Information System. Results: There are 2 million inhabitants younger than 18 in the Czech Republic, 37 590 entries with codes I60-I69, G45 in 2010–2018 in the registers, 4 021 unique patients, 50.6 % females, 49.4 % males, 23.8 % patients with TIA’s, 15.4 % cerebral infarctions, 14.3 % stroke, 8.9 % intracerebral haemorrhage, 7.9 % subarachnoid haemorrhage. The most common second diagnosis was epilepsy (3.7 %). MRI head International Journal of Stroke 15(1S) 392 International Journal of Stroke 15(1S) was performed in 41.0 % – 50.4 %, MRA in 22.0 – 28.6 %, CT in 8.4 % – 11.7 % patients. Intravenous thrombolysis was administered to 14 patients and mechanical embolectomy was performed in 22 patients. 25 patients died of cerebrovascular disease from 2010 to 2018 in total. The main cause of death was subarachnoid haemorrhage (9), intracerebral haemorrhage (7), cerebral infarction (4), other cerebrovascular disease (3), stroke (2). Conclusions: Epidemiological study on stroke in children in the Czech Republic between 2010 and 2018 was done. There has been ongoing analysis and registry development.
