On Thursday, 6 November, 36 doctoral students — along with their supervisors or consultants — received the Vice-Rector for Research and Doctoral Studies’ Award for Excellent Results in Doctoral Studies at Masaryk University.
The awards were presented by Vice-Rector for Research and Doctoral Studies Šárka Pospíšilová to those who were selected based on the successful completion of their doctoral studies within the standard four-year period, extended by no more than one year, and for achieving high-quality research results included in their dissertations. The award, first given in 2021, aims to motivate doctoral students to complete their studies on time and to achieve outstanding research outcomes.
A special mention goes to Petr Nejedlý, who completed his doctoral studies in the Neurosciences programme at the Faculty of Medicine, Masaryk University (LF MU) under the supervision of Milan Brázdil.
Petr Nejedlý developed a method using AI-based analysis of imaging data to accurately localize epileptic foci. The automated target design for surgical intervention contributes to safer treatment planning for pharmacoresistant epilepsy.

Scientists from the research group led by professor Milan Brázdil have contributed to the study of how the brain processes visual stimuli and how this influences our consciousness. Their work provides new tools for assessing patients whose condition does not allow reliance on verbal responses.
