International course on spinal deformity in Leuven, Belgium

From 6 to 7 November 2018, under the direction of Deputy Vice President Martin Repok, an international course at the Institute of Orthopedic Research and Training in Leuven, Belgium, took place.

During a two-day course, 28 participants from 5 European countries, Oman, Jordan and South Africa were theoretically acquainted with the state-of-the-art procedures for the treatment of scoliotic deformities of the spine. Subsequently, at the Katholiske Universiteit anatomical institute, in the cadaverous course, they practically tested the transmitted surgical techniques. Subsequently, on 8 November, Vice-Dean Repko, at the invitation of the Dutch LIV nurses, presented his experience with the treatment of spinal deformity during a training course in Dordrecht, Netherlands, to 55 operating instructors from the Netherlands and Netherlands Antilles.

Both events contributed to the internationalization of our medical faculty and deepened cooperation with foreign experts interested in postgraduate education at our university. These courses were immediately preceded by visits by Hungarian orthopedists and colleagues from South Africa to the operating theaters of the LF MU and FN Brno, where they were able to participate in live operations of corrections of scoliotic deformities.
