The EU has presented its first Health Plan for Cardiovascular Health
In December 2025, the European Commission published the first-ever EU cardiovascular health plan, the Safe Hearts Plan. Doctors and professional associations have welcomed it.
For the third time, you are all invited to a friendly gathering over coffee and breakfast in the campus library. On Monday, May 20, Tomáš Kašpárek will welcome Professor Martin Bareš, former Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and current Rector of Masaryk University.
Martin Bareš has been the Rector of Masaryk University since 2019. He is also a professor of neurology at the First Neurological Clinic of St. Anne's University Hospital and Faculty of Medicine. In 2011-2018, he held the position of Vice-Rector of MU; in 2018-2019, he was Dean of the Faculty of Medicine.
He will share with us his international experience with the Fullbright Scholarship, insights from important milestones in his career, and his recipe for combining clinical and research activities with high academic and managerial positions. At the previous breakfast on 9 April 2024, we met Zdeněk Andrysík, the new head of the research group "Molecular Mechanisms of Cancer" at the Institute of Biology, LF. He shared with us his experiences as a postdoc and early career in the United States, tips on choosing a lab, and about life in the US and grant opportunities there. He also answered many of your questions from the registration forms.

The SCALPEL 2.0 (Surgery Collaborative and Long-term Practical Experience Learning 2.0) training project, coordinated by the Anatomical Institute of the Faculty of Medicine at Masaryk University under the leadership of its head, Marek Joukal, has completed its first 14 months of implementation. The year 2025 brought several specific educational activities that underscore the importance of this initiative for the development of surgical education and international cooperation.
