Rector of Masaryk University Martin Bareš, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Martin Repko, Head of the Department of Health Sciences (UZV) Andrea Pokorná, as well as representatives of the region, university hospitals and the Masaryk Memorial Cancer Institute all attended the symbolic christening of the new teaching space at the Department of Health Sciences of the Faculty of Medicine of Masaryk University. Of course, the colleagues from the Department, who have contributed to their construction, were also present. "The biggest thanks go to them, because even in difficult moments they manage their work excellently," Professor Pokorná praised the UZV team.
Seventeen non-physician healthcare degree programs are currently offered at the Faculty of Medicine of Masaryk University, and this number will soon be expanded by one more. Of these, UZV covers five of them on a core basis and provides partial teaching in others. "We teach general nurses, midwives, paramedics, but we also teach public health and intensive care. The total number of non-physician healthcare programmes that can be studied here is unique in the Czech Republic," Pokorná recalled. "But it's not just about the numbers, it's about the quality of education."
The new premises, equipped to be as close as possible to current practice - both in terms of furnishings and materials - will undoubtedly contribute to further quality development. At the same time, they will help not only to further integrate the faculty departments, but also to link the study programmes more deeply. "They open up the opportunity to deepen cooperation between study programmes and expertise already at the pregraduate level. In practice, such cooperation is a need," noted the Rector of the University, Professor Martin Bareš, who also thanked the representatives of the faculty for their contribution and implementation of the Národní plán obnovy, which financed the creation of modernly equipped classrooms.
As the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Professor Martin Repko, emphasized, "UZV is a showcase of what the Faculty can offer not only on a national level, but also abroad." He also recalled the important fact that thanks to the new premises, the Faculty of Medicine will not only be able to improve the quality of teaching, but also to expand its capacity in the future as part of a government programme that will increase the capacity of education in key non-physician healthcare professions in the coming years. Its implementation will begin in the autumn. "This is a huge project in which the UZV has a major stake. You are the ones who play a vital role in meeting the societal need for more non-physician healthcare professionals," Martin Repko thanked the UZV team.
