LF MU and FN Brno Build a Joint Biobank of Clinical Samples
The Faculty of Medicine of Masaryk University and University Hospital Brno are establishing a joint biobank of biological samples. The initiative will help advance biomedical research.
In May 2025, Brno saw its third menstrual hygiene drive, organized by the Brno branch of IFMSA in cooperation with several faculties of Masaryk University. Thanks to the generosity of donors and the support of the organization Sola Pomáhá, the hygiene products were distributed to women and girls facing difficult life situations through local organizations.
For the third time, the menstrual hygiene drive took place in Brno in May 2025. It was organised by the Brno branch of IFMSA in cooperation with the Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Arts, and the Faculty of Social Studies at Masaryk University.
This year, we joined forces with the nationwide organisation Sola Pomáhá, which focuses on fighting menstrual poverty. Thanks to this collaboration, the collected supplies were distributed to several local organisations — the Brno branches of the Salvation Army, the DROM Centre, and the Vesna Association.
During the drive, we managed to gather more than 50 packs of sanitary pads, over 20 packs of tampons, several packs of wet wipes, and menstrual underwear. Some donors even included ibuprofen, which we couldn’t distribute but greatly appreciated as a sign of solidarity.
Thanks to the dedication of students and other donors, significant support was once again provided in Brno to women and girls for whom basic hygiene products are not a given. This drive is part of a nationwide initiative involving all medical faculties across the Czech Republic.
We thank everyone who joined this initiative and helped improve the living conditions of many people for whom the lack of menstrual supplies can cause not only health but also social issues.
