Among the participants were Vice-Deans of the best Czech universities and distinguished guests from Cypriot universities. The Faculty of Medicine of Masaryk University was represented by Lubomír Křivan, Vice Dean for English Studies and Internationalization of the Faculty of Medicine and Helena Melicharová, Head of the International Studies Office. The meeting was organized under the auspices of the Ambassador of the Czech Republic Ing. Vladimír Němec and was attended by about 60 graduates, many of whom came from our faculty. "Those with whom we had the opportunity to talk for a longer period of time have led very successful professional lives since their return from the Czech Republic and are thus becoming ambassadors not only of Czech education abroad," says Vice-Dean Křivan. Also present were representatives of Charles University, the Cypriot Ministry of Education, and the University of Nicosia.

The tradition of Cypriot students studying in the Czech Republic (then Czechoslovakia) began almost 50 years ago. Since then, the number of students has gradually increased to today's approximately 200 students per year. Our country is a popular study destination for Cypriot students due to its cultural similarities, which make it easier to adapt to Czech customs. The Czech Republic is world renowned for its excellent education, offering diplomas in several programmes such as medicine, engineering, humanities, business and social sciences. In addition, the Czech Republic offers excellent research facilities, including laboratories and opportunities for collaboration. Many young Cypriots studying at Czech universities have been inspired by the recommendations of their parents who also obtained their degrees in the Czech Republic and have praised the high level of education here. Among the many programmes in English, medical and veterinary students predominate, but there is growing interest in pharmacy, engineering, IT, social sciences and other fields of study that the Embassy supports.

Our representatives also contributed a short report to Cypriot television highlighting the role of our Faculty of Medicine MU in the education of local health professionals and established personal contacts with representatives of the University of Nicosia with the aim of initiating cooperation in student and staff mobility programmes.
