RANDE 2023: "Care focused on the wound, the cause or the person?"

A multidisciplinary team of professionals caring for a patient with a non-healing wound is as important to treatment as an educated patient who knows their needs and is actively involved in the healing process. This is the consensus of the experts and representatives of the medical professions closest to the treatment of patients with non-healing wounds and chronic defects who gathered at the RANDE conference on 21 and 22 September.

In the past few days, namely from 21 to 22 September 2023, an international conference entitled Wounds and Defects 2023 (abbreviated as RANDE 2023) was held at the VITALITY Hotel in Vendrin, which focused on the healing of chronic wounds, skin defects and tissue repair. The conference programme was carefully designed to appeal to dermatologists, surgeons and other healthcare professionals, as well as health law experts. The event presents a unique opportunity for professionals and lay people alike to gain deeper insight into the treatment of wounds and skin defects and thus contribute to higher quality patient care.

The conference also offered a number of workshops where it was possible to share experiences and learn about prevention and therapeutic procedures in wound care. A very interesting part of the conference was the expert panel discussion that focused on sustainability of care in wound management. This discussion included representatives from medical practice as well as medical device suppliers, patient organisations and experts in healthcare legislation. "Similar panel discussions are still rather rare in the context of domestic professional events, but they are important in order for the audience and conference participants to perceive different perspectives on issues that affect their daily practice. Sustainability in terms of wound care has to be perceived on several levels - sustainability of sufficient numbers of educated staff, sufficient preventive and therapeutic materials for healing and cost-effective management, but also clarification of legislative requirements for the competencies of all involved. Sustainability is thus not only seen in the context of environmental protection, but in a much broader sense." says Andrea Pokorná, who was one of the panellists.

All the conference proceedings are now available in the proceedings of the conference on the kazuistiky.cz web portal, which provides the opportunity for further study of this important issue.

The aim of the conference was to provide participants with a broad overview and suggestions for interdisciplinary collaboration in the field of wound management. The main focus was to improve professional care of wound patients.

This prestigious event was organized by the web portal hojeniran.cz, and received professional patronage from the Czech Society for Wound Care and the Institute of Health Sciences of the Faculty of Medicine of Masaryk University in Brno. Media partners of the conference were Medical Tribune and GEUM publishing house.

The main expert guarantor of the conference was MUDr. Jan Stryja, PhD. and among the members of the organizing committee were prof. PhDr. Andrea Pokorná, Ph.D., PhDr. Petra Búřilová, BBA, Mgr. Natália Antalová, Mgr. et Mgr. Andrea Menšíková, Mgr. Pavel Kůřil, DiS., and Mgr. Dana Dolanová, Ph.D. from the Institute of Health Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, MU.
