Nurses have had their official International Day since 1965. Since 1974, it has been regularly commemorated on 12 May, the date of birth of Florence Nightingale, the Englishwoman considered the founder of professional nursing and the nursing profession. This year's campaign has an eloquent subtitle, taking into account the long-standing staffing shortage of nurses, which is faced not only by the Czech health care system. "Our nurses. Our future."

"The title expresses the challenges we need to face to improve global health for all. We need to learn from the pandemic and translate these lessons into actions that ensure nurses are protected, respected and valued," said Pamela Cipriano, President of the International Council of Nurses, on this year's International Nurses' Day.

And we at Masaryk University Faculty of Medicine are thinking of our nurses, including future ones! "We wish all women and men who combine their professional life with nursing and patient care good health, happiness, satisfaction in their professional and personal life. Thank you for your important work and your irreplaceable role in healthcare teams and society as a whole. We are aware of the importance of the need to develop the field of nursing and thank you for contributing to its development through your work," says Andrea Pokorná, Vice Dean for Healthcare Study Programmes and Information Technology.
