We bring you a selection of the most interesting things in science and research at our faculty in the shortest month of 2025
At the end of July this year, Ing. Karolína Kašparová from the Office for Research and Quality of Masaryk University Faculty of Medicine at an international meeting of institutions involved in the SPARK program, which was established at Stanford University.
This year's SPARK Global Meeting 2023 was hosted by representatives of the SPARK Taiwan programme, led by Professor Yufeng Jane Tseng from National Taiwan University.
The School of Medicine has been part of the SPARK Global network, which consists of more than 60 institutions worldwide, since 2021. The founder of the SPARK program is professor Daria Mochly-Rosen from Stanford University, whose vision is to streamline the process of transferring biomedical research into clinical practice. The programme has been running since 2006 and provides support to scientists who want to make their results applicable in practice.

The event program, subtitled "Embracing New Future in Pharma and MedTech Innovation", was packed with unique expertise in translational research, regulatory strategy, clinical trials and venture capital funding opportunities, with many important and honoured guests engaging in open discussions and sharing valuable insights from their practice.
"All participating institutions presented their efforts and the significant impact of the program not only at the regional level but also at the global level through more effective cooperation within the SPARK Global network and sharing of good practices", summarized Ing. Kašparová.

A team of scientists led by the head of the research group at the Department of Biology, Nicola Silva, has made a significant achievement in research into the reduced or impaired function of the Synaptonemal complex, which may be one of the causes of sterility. The paper by an international team of authors was published in the prestigious scientific journal Nature Communications in March 2025.
