The Internal Grant Agency of the FM MU supported establishing another junior research group in January 2024. Thus, a research group of Zdeněk Andrysík is being established at the Department of Biology, which will focus on molecular mechanisms of cancer.
Zdeněk Andrysík's research focuses on the molecular mechanisms of cancer. He uses an innovative therapeutic strategy based on targeted activation of two key stress response networks, genomic screens and other innovative methods and analyses.
The young scientist completed his MSc and PhD studies at the Faculty of Science of MU and worked as a postdoc in the USA at the University of Cincinnati and the University of Colorado at Boulder. Before joining the Institute of Biology at the Faculty of Medicine, he worked at the Pharmacology Institute of the University of Colorado Cancer Center in the USA.
Individual grant of the FM MU Internal Grant Agency (InGA) supports young scientists and their teams. It is intended for researchers up to 40 years of age and offers financial support in the amount of 2 000 000 CZK/year with a project duration of 3 years.
Three junior research groups have already been established with InGA LF MU funds.

A team of scientists led by the head of the research group at the Department of Biology, Nicola Silva, has made a significant achievement in research into the reduced or impaired function of the Synaptonemal complex, which may be one of the causes of sterility. The paper by an international team of authors was published in the prestigious scientific journal Nature Communications in March 2025.
