On 30th October 2023, the Minister of Science, Research and Innovation, Helena Langšádlová, and the Deputy Minister of Health, Václav Pláteník, visited the Faculty of Medicine of Masaryk University. The main objective of the visit was to introduce the first spin-off company linked to the Faculty of Medicine of Masaryk University - MilkyWay be well, s.r.o. and to discuss the innovative MyWay analytix® solution, developed in cooperation with the Institute of Medical Psychology and Psychosomatics under the leadership of doc. Světlák.
The meeting with the participation of the faculty management, representatives of the Department of Medical Psychology and Psychosomatics, and the founder of MilkyWay be well, Mr. Martin Bořil, brought suggestions regarding possible cooperation at the national level within the strategy of mental health support at companies. This topic is currently critical in view of the changes in legislation in the field of occupational medical services.
The MyWay analytix® solution is designed to serve as a tool for the prevention and risk reduction of mental health problems and analysis of the mental health of individuals and organizations, and thus can contribute to better mental health care for employees across the Czech Republic through close collaboration with ministries and other key partners.
Our faculty was successful in this year’s Horizon Europe Twinning call and will establish a Centre of Excellence for Catalytic Biomaterials. The centre will focus on developing a new generation of nanomaterials capable of responding to their surroundings and helping to regulate inflammation, reduce oxidative stress, and support the fight against infection and tissue healing.
An interdisciplinary team of researchers led by Stjepan Uldrijan from the Department of Biology and his PhD student Natálie Vadovičová, in collaboration with CEITEC MU, the Institute of Biophysics of the Czech Academy of Sciences, and FNUSA-ICRC, has published new findings on the molecular mechanisms that regulate the growth of malignant melanoma cells.
