At the beginning of November, the EMBO Laboratory Leadership training course took place at the Bohunice University Campus.
The Laboratory Leadership courses are organised by Embo Solutions, a German company that aims to make the research environment more productive, inclusive and fair for all through personalised training. The professional development training concept aims to promote excellence in the life sciences. In their development, Embo Solutions works with the international organisation EMBO, which brings together more than 1,900 leading researchers from Europe and beyond.
During the three-day course, 8 research group leaders from the theoretical and clinical departments of FM MU focused on topics such as leadership and the role of a group leader, teamwork, giving feedback, conflict solution, selecting team members and delegation. The aim was to bring about positive change in the leadership and management of the research group and to share good practices.
An internal Masaryk University project for support of strategic management largely covered the course fees.

A team of scientists led by the head of the research group at the Department of Biology, Nicola Silva, has made a significant achievement in research into the reduced or impaired function of the Synaptonemal complex, which may be one of the causes of sterility. The paper by an international team of authors was published in the prestigious scientific journal Nature Communications in March 2025.
