The harder you work, the luckier you get

In the cosy environment of the University Campus Library and a friendly atmosphere over coffee and breakfast, a discussion took place between Vice Dean Tomáš Kašpárek and scientists Tomáš Bárta and Aleš Hampl from the Institute of Histology and Embryology about their beginnings in their work, important moments in their scientific careers and the people who influenced them the most. The guests recalled their experiences in foreign laboratories and compared the scientific world at the beginning of their research careers with today's world.

Numerous questions from the audience were also fielded regarding the quality of scientific articles, recommendations on describing groundbreaking scientific ideas in a grant to appeal to reviewers, and the importance of linking basic research to clinics so scientists do not lose touch with the real world.

The guests also gave the scientists present tips on how to write a successful GA CR project, a hot topic now that the new GA CR competitions for 2025 have been announced.

Jitka Blažková, Head of the Project Support Department, introduced the increasingly topical topic of Gender in Research. Her department has prepared a new website that will introduce scientists to the issue of incorporating the gender dimension into their project application when writing and implementing projects.
