Description Monogenic hypertension is a hereditary rare disease caused by a single gene mutation. Most genetic defects in these disorders ultimately result in increased sodium transport in the distal nephron resulting in volume expansion and hypertension. This type of hypertension is characterized by early onset, positive family history for hypertension, severe hypertension, or refractory hypertension.
