Excellence Publications Support Fund

The aim of this tool is to support excellent publications by authors from the Faculty of Medicine MU. The purpose of the fund is to cover publication costs in the year 2025, provided that the rules set out below are met. The application is submitted via a form in the Document Office application in IS MU.

Fund budget for 2026: 6,830,770 CZK

Budget utilization as of 1 July 2026: 3,489,514 CZK

Criteria for 2026:

• Publication is in the first quartile of Web of Science category according to IF and first or corresponding author is from FM MU.
• Publication is in the second quartile of Web of Science category according to IF and first or corresponding author is a doctoral student from FM MU.
• In case of collaboration within MU, more than 50 % of authors from MU must belong to FM MU, and the department contribution of FM MU in IS MU will be more than 50 %.
• The journal meets the criteria of transparency and good practice in scientific publishing*.
• Support from the Excellence Publications Support Fund can only be applied for if the applicant has no other financial resources available to cover publication costs, including project resources, departmental resources or university vouchers and discounts.
• The application submitted to the Document Office will include a commitment of the department head that in case the fund's resources are exhausted, the publication fee will be paid from the department's resources.

*Prevention of predatory publishers - given the emerging new patterns of predatory behaviour by publishers, we recommend paying increased attention to suspicious features that contradict the principles of good practice in scientific publishing, especially journals that publish large numbers of papers in so-called special issues. Verification of the transparency and best practice principles in scientific publishing is provided by the University Campus Library service.

• Publication fees
• Fees for text corrections, graphics (colour images, etc.)
• Open Access fees

Payment Methods:

Approved eligible costs will be reimbursed by the Grant Office on the basis of the sent tax document (invoice) issued to Masaryk University, Faculty of Medicine (i.e. the invoice will state: Masaryk University Faculty of Medicine, Kamenice 5, 625 00 Brno including VAT: CZ00216224).

The application must include the manuscript and the invoice and must be submitted immediately after the invoice has been issued.
