Description The aim of this clinical guideline is to provide guidance on the use of opioids in the treatment of chronic non-cancer pain (CNP) in adult patients (age ? 18 years). For the purposes of the present guideline, CHNNB is defined as any pain condition that lasts ? 3 months and is not associated with a diagnosis of cancer. CHNNB significantly affects daily activities and has a significant negative impact on overall quality of life and functional ability. Disability caused by CHNNB is associated with a high volume of disability and reduced work capacity. In the Czech Republic for the period 2015-2018, a total of 1,363,495 patients were treated with selected opioid medications, of which 1,267,389 were for CHNNB. In 2018, there were a total of 6 369 persons with CHNNB per 100 000 population (i.e. 6.4% of the population).
