The March meeting at the Institute of Health Sciences of the Faculty of Medicine of Masaryk University strengthens international cooperation in the field of education in emergency medicine.
On 19 and 20 March, the Institute of Health Sciences of the Faculty of Medicine of Masaryk University hosted an important international meeting, which brought together representatives of institutions from all over Europe specializing in paramedic education. Colleagues from England, Finland, Spain (Basque Country) and Germany (Bavaria) came to Brno to discuss key topics in contemporary paramedic education.
The main points of the agenda were sharing experiences, developing exchange visits for students and academics, deepening research opportunities in pre-hospital care and finding ways to share teaching. The participants had a unique opportunity to visit the premises of the South Moravian Region Medical Rescue Service in Bohunice and the Simulation Centre of the Faculty of Medicine of Masaryk University. The event offered a glimpse of practical training implementation and allowed delegates to directly participate in simulation exercises of third-year students of the Paramedic Rescue programme. The meeting concluded with the identification of common objectives and consensus on the direction of future collaboration between the institutions present.
"We believe that the cross-border meeting will help further development of education in emergency medicine," said Mgr. Michal Pospíšil, a member of the programme board of the study programme Paramedic Emergency Medicine, participated in its organization. Vice-Dean Andrea Pokorná added: "I am enthusiastic about how seemingly significantly different processes in the provision of undergraduate education for paramedics can find connecting elements and promote the quality of education and the development of our own pre-hospital and emergency care in an international context. It is in emergency and pre-hospital care that the potential lies, which is not only fulfilled in the framework and delivery of cross-border care so typical of the region in which we operate. I am proud of the colleagues I work with in our faculty."
Every year, over sixty students come to Brno hospitals for exchange internships under the auspices of the IFMSA student organisation. They take home not only valuable work experience.
