Department of Burns and Plastic Surgery of the Faculty of Medicine at Masaryk University and the University Hospital Brno invites you to lectures by leading global experts in reconstructive and transplant surgery – Professors Bohdan Pomahač and JP Hong – at the beginning of the new academic year. Their focus will be on innovations and the future of reconstructive microsurgery, as well as the challenges of complex tissue transplantation, known as VCA (Vascularized Composite Allotransplantation).

Professor Bohdan Pomahač, born in Ostrava, made medical history in 2011 as one of the first surgeons in the world to perform a full face transplant – the very first such procedure in the United States. He currently serves as the head of plastic and reconstructive surgery at Yale New Haven Hospital in Connecticut. Professor JP Hong from Asan Medical Center in Seoul, South Korea, is one of the world’s leading specialists in microsurgical reconstruction of the lower limbs, including treatment of lymphedema and complications related to diabetic foot.

"I would like to invite both colleagues and students to these exceptional lectures by two world-renowned figures in reconstructive and transplant surgery. I believe this will be an inspiring event at the beginning of the new semester, one that can motivate students in their future careers," says Associate Professor Libor Streit, Head of the Department of Burns and Plastic Surgery.

The lectures will take place on Monday, September 22, 2025, at 3:00 PM in lecture hall B11/114 at the Faculty of Medicine Campus, Masaryk University.
