October the 3rd marked the 90th anniversary of professor emeritus Ivo Hrazdira D.Sc., M.D., at the Faculty of Medicine MU. From the representatives of the Czech Medical Association, he received the Commemorative Gold Medal CzMA for his lifetime contributions to the field of biophysics. A small ceremony was held under the auspices of the Faculty of Medicine MU on 1st October 2020. The Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, professor Martin Repko Ph.D., M.D., joined with his personal wish of sound health as well.

Professor Ivo Hrazdira D.Sc., M.D. was interested not only in biophysics which was his main teaching field but also in medical instrumentation and especially in ultrasonographic diagnostic imaging techniques. For more than thirty years, he dedicated his main research to a study of an ultrasound interaction with other biological systems focused on safety issues of medical applications. The results of his theoretical and experimental studies were published in more than 150 articles within Czech and foreign expert journals. He was the head author of a textbook of the Biophysics for Medical Faculties and he is a co-author of three monographs dealing with the use of ultrasound in medicine. It is necessary to mention his activities in abroad, mainly his long-term membership in the European Commission for Safety of Ultrasonic Waves and his membership in the European Federation of Societies for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology. Currently, he is a member of the Czech Society for Ultrasound in Medicine at the Czechoslovak Biological Society, an honorary chairman of the Czech Society for Medical Physics at the Czech Medical Association and an honorary member of two foreign expert societies.
