With the start of the new semester, it was time to meet again for the traditional autumn General Meeting. This year's 49th edition, organized by the Prague branch of the Association of Dental Students of the Czech Republic, attracted a record 54 members. The organisers chose a cosy cottage in Kořenov, situated in the beautiful natural surroundings of the Jizera Mountains, for the event.
Right from the start, on Friday, October 24, participants enjoyed a Halloween-themed pub quiz. It was a great opportunity to meet new colleagues and make friends not only across the Czech Republic but also in Slovakia, as two representatives of the Slovak Association of Dental Students (SSSZL) also attended.
Saturday morning was devoted to meetings. Officials presented their work over the past period and assessed the events that had occurred. Traditional projects, such as Na vlnách Listerine (On the Waves of Listerine) and Herbadentúra, were again very successful this year. A new addition was the European Exchange Program (EVP), in which ten students from various European countries participated. The program received overwhelmingly positive feedback and was the first event of its kind organised in the Czech Republic.
Members from individual cities also presented their plans for the next period and inspired others. After lunch, the eagerly awaited elections took place, during which the current officials handed over their roles to new active members.
Newly elected executive board members:
- Supervisor: Marie Svatošová
- II. Vice President: Daniela Šteflíčková
- Administrator: Julie Svobodová
- NEO: Lucia Mateičková
- NPO: Michal Mrázek
Workshops with General Assembly followed the meeting partners Odonto and Kavo. The seminar on ergonomics in dentistry reminded participants of the importance of correct posture at work and offered practical tips on caring for knee attachments. An interactive lecture on dental practice branding showed how the right name can attract future patients. Participants rated both workshops as very enriching.
The evening was devoted to a discussion with a special guest – the president of the Czech Dental Chamber, Doc. MUDr. Roman Šmucler, CSc., who shared his extensive experience and his vision for the future development of the field. The day's program concluded with a series of games, including pumpkin carving and writing poems with the phrase "pulpitis acuta purulenta."
On Sunday morning, the participants said their goodbyes and the 49th General Assembly became a thing of the past. A big thank you goes to the organisers, thanks to whom the event was a success, and all participants thoroughly enjoyed it.
