Description The main focus of this study was to compare two semi-quantitative methods for collecting the leeches. The methods are a widely used kick-sampling (three minutes), and the hand collecting, preferably recommended to record the leeches. On each site, a line of 10 m sampling was chosen and the optimum time of hand collecting was recorded. To obtain significant diversity and abundance data, thirty minutes proved satisfactory. Kick-sampling proved to be unsuitable for collecting leeches, only 9 species were found out of the total of 17 species recorded. Both numbers of species and numbers of individuals differed significantly.
