Description ABSTRACT Introduction: Th e estimation of age at death is a crucial step for identifi cation of all individuals. Objective: Th e aim of this contribution was to compare various anthropological methods of age estimation at the historical material. Material and methods: Altogether were produced 60 sections of teeth and ribs, 60 X-rays of femoral and humeral bones and evaluated 42 individuals from the historical material. For the estimation of age at death were performed standard morphological methods, modifi cation of Gustafson method and osteons counting in the rib cortex. Results: It can be concluded that the estimation of age according to histological changes in hard tooth tissues is the most eff ective method. It can be support also the use of standard morphological methods in their combination. Th e worst results were established aft er the age estimation on the basis of evaluation of the rib sections. Conclusion: Th e results are useful not only for the anthropologists but also for the forensics in the identifi cation of solitary skeletal remains.
