| Description | Trazodone was primarily classified as tetracyclic antidepressant, later known as a member of the subgroup SARI (Serotonin2 Antagonists/Reuptake Inhibitors), according to the main confirmed pharmacological mechanisms of action, which correspond beside antidepressant also to anxiolytic and hypnotic effects. A successive investigation of multimodal trazodone affinities and activities at neuronal binding sites is extending the view on its therapeutic potential. This article summarizes that currently available information. |
