Description The Mn-Ti system plays a significant role in hydrogen storage materials, titanium aluminum duplex alloys with high strength intermetallics for aerospace and turbine applications and in other fields. A good knowledge on phase relations is therefore crucial for thermodynamic prediction for higher order systems. This system has been experimentally and thermodynamically investigated and assessed several times but thermodynamic evaluation leading to a reliable thermodynamic description is still far from reality. This work presents a new thermodynamic assessment of the Ti-Mn system supported by new ab-initio data for the Laves phase TiMn2 (C14) and by new experimental data [5] in view of a thermodynamic prediction of the Mn-Ti-N system for which binary assessments exist for the systems Mn-N and Ti-N [6,7] and ternary experimental data are available in [8].
