Description The aim of this work was the computer analysis of mice behaviour in a novel area (20cm x 30cm) using the Acti-track system (Panlab, S.L., Spain). This software enables us to require not just frequency of parameters, but also the position in a predefined area. Comparing the effect of placebo, citalopram and valproate, we proved desinhibition of locomotor activity after pre-treatment with both clinically used antidepressants. Furthermore, both antidepressants used, significantly increased preference of the central compartment of the testing area when compared with the naive mice and placebo. The results indicate, that desinhibition of exploratory activity in a novel environment in mice after agonistic interactions, could be used as a marker of antidepressant-like potential of drugs.
