Description Wilde-type strains of various bacteria were used in an antimicrobial susceptibility testing for biofilm forming bacteria based on the ability of bacteria to attach to polymeric surfaces. For the biofilm detection modified Christensen method was used. For antibiotic susceptibility testing 24 hours old biofilm grown in TSB (trypticase soy broth) medium on 96-well polystyrene microtiter plates was used. Various antibiotics and antibiotic concentrations were used. Detected values were than compared with traditionally susceptibility testing. Using this method we demonstrated the reduced susceptibility to antimicrobial substances in adherent bacterial populations not seen in the same bacteria grown as the planktonic populations. Synergism or partial synergism have been demonstrated against many tested bacteria with one ore more antimicrobial combinations.
