Description In this study predonation of autologous blood (PAD) is compared with acute normovolemic hemodilution (ANH) as alternative technique of autologous blood procurement in patients scheduled for radical prostatectomy. Blood loss, Hct values and amount of infused blood were comperable in both groups (PAD and ANH) during surgery. None of the patients was given allogeneic blood. The ANH can replace the PAD as a method for avoiding allogeneic blood transfusion in patients undergoing radical prostatectomy.
