Description Detailed audit of both epidemiological and clinical data of population-based Czech National Cancer Registry (NCR) was performed with special focus on diagnostic groups of leukemia. NCR database collected since 1977 was compared with multi-centric clinical registries of hematological professional societies and with international literature. The conclusion regarding incidence data was that it is usable only in reasonable aggregation while mortality estimates were found to be completely wrong. The main reason is too universal character of NCR records that in fact ignores diagnostically specific classification of both acute and chronic leukemia. The paper strongly recommends and proposes novel version of NCR records suitable also for this highly dynamic field of medicine. Implementation of electronic and on-line accessible data management system is proposed as well.
