Description AIM: The aim of this study was to analyze the incidence and the diagnostic possibilities of local factors in the etiology of ectopic eruption of upper permanent canine. For analysis were used images acquired from CT examination. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Examinated material was formed by CT images (CT scans, MPR and 3D reconstructios) of 190 patients (114 females and 76 males), aged between 10 and 50 years (average age 17,5 years), with ectopic eruption of upper permanent canine. In general were analyzed 240 (140 unilateral and 100 bilateral) ectopic canines. RESULTS: The following incidence of local etiological factors was recorded: lack of space (20,8%) and total loss of space for canine eruption (10,8%), excess of space (15,8%), pegshape lateral incisor (7,5%), hypodontia of lateral incisor (5,4%), transposition of canine and lateral incisor (4,2%), transposition of canine and first premolar (6,7%), supernumerary tooth (3%), anomalous position of first premolar (27,9%) and root malformation of first premolar (3,7%). Incidence of other factors was recorded in small number. CONCLUSIONS: The knowledge of etiology and diagnostic possibilities of local etiological factors is essential condition for early treatment of ectopic eruption of upper permanent canine.
