Description The case of a patient with psoriatic erythroderma is described, in whom etanercept and acitretin were introduced because of the failure of previous systemic treatment (cyklosporine, acitretin, prednisone). The therapy with etanercept was fully indicated, bringing the patient into a complete remission without adverse effects. The combination with acitretin was effective and well tolerated but afterwards acitretin alone was not able to keep the disease in remission. Generally this case confirms the fact that the biologic agents including etanercept represent very specific and effective therapy of psoriasis which enables a long term control of severe cases of this disorder. On the other hand this treatment must be long-lasting if not continuous, because after the discontinuation of the treatment psoriasis relapses.
