Description The authors evaluated results achieved with the use of photodynamic therapy with Visudyne (PDT) for classic juxta-and subfoveal choroidal neovascular membrane (CNV) in age-related macular degeneration (AMD), pathologic myopia, and idiopathic CNVs. PDT with Visudyne (verteporfin) is a two-stage treatment process involving the intravenous administration of drugs with the subsequent activation of a diode laser of wavelength 689 nm. The group included 10 patients (6 women and 3 men) of age range from 46 to 84 years (average 70.2 years) with classic CNV. 5x the CNV occurred within AMD, 3 under pathological myopia and 2 were of idiopathic CNV. The tracking period was 4 weeks - 9 months. Each patient underwent a protocol according to the first session of PDT. If an inspection conducted by the FA after 3 months showed reperfusion of CNV were indicated repeat PDT. The authors present their own set of patients on the effectiveness of PDT with Visudyne to preserve central vision in patients with classic juxta-and subfoveal CNV.
