Description We are entering a new period in the treatment of head and neck cancers, during which new therapeutic agents, new paradigms of treatment, new surgical and radiation technology and new prognostic factors are rapidly becoming available. In this period of multidisciplinary approach for each head and neck cancer patient the crucial role of clinical oncologist at the start of the decision-making and treatment-planning process is the absolute standard. Treatment of head and neck cancers is associated with increasing numbers of fully cured patients, improved preservation of organ functionality and improved survival rates. The up-to-date situation regarding integration of chemotherapy and targeted therapy into multimodality treatment of head and neck cancer is discussed in the article.
