Animal Breeding Facility
The Animal Facility, which mainly serves Masaryk University investigators, is placed in a separate pavilion interconnected with the remaining buildings of the University Campus. The Facility is fully accredited by the National body (according to law no. 246/1992) for breeding and carrying out experiments on small animals, including mice, rats, rabbits, and guinea pigs.
The Facility is barrier type and as a whole, it operates under specific pathogen-free (SPF) conditions. The overall floor area of breeding/experimental rooms (total of 39 rooms) averages about 630 m2. Some rooms are accredited for genetically modified organisms (GMO) and some are equipped with individually ventilated cages (IVC). The Facility is properly staffed and besides standard animal care, it also offers support with designing and carrying out experiments on animals.
The Facility offers instrumentation for surgeries, monitoring of life functions, and postoperative care (operation microscopes, positioning apparatuses, high-frequency ultrasound Vevo 770, etc.) and also instrumentation for studying neurobehavioral functions.
