Research Infrastructure

The Faculty of Medicine boasts excellent infrastructure. It is home to the Advanced Cell Immunotherapy Unit (ACIU), a cleanroom facility for the production of hepatocellular medicinal drugs certified by the Czech Institute for Drug Control. The ACIU enables unique clinical studies to be conducted with the use of patients’ dendritic cells in paediatric oncology (in collaboration with University Hospital Brno) and other studies related to the treatment of bullous dermatitis. The unit is a part of the Centre of Excellence CREATIC. 

Furthermore, MED MUNI is also the home of CZECRIN, the Czech national node of the European Network of Clinical Research Infrastructures and the national coordinator of ECRIN, the European Clinical Research Infrastructure, thanks to which MED MUNI organizes numerous academic clinical studies for external sponsoring companies. CZECRIN, therefore, makes introducing new medical procedures into clinical practice possible.

Finally, MED MUNI operates its own Laboratory Animal Breeding and Experimental Facility, accredited for working with GMO animals. For internal and external scientific research purposes, transgenic strains and typical mouse colonies are bred here for basic and applied research. The Medicinal Herbs Centre, the MED MUNI botanical garden, focuses on the non-commercial cultivation of medicinal herbs for scientific and research purposes.
