Inception and development of drug abuse is underlined by affecting of wide range of neurophysiological regulatory mechanisms. Influence of changed activity of the appropriate neurotransmitter systems is the best known. A significant role is believed to be associated with the influence of serotonergic (5-HT) neurotransmitter system which among others affects the regulation of mood. Rather detailed information exist on the role of 5-HT in central nervous system influencing behaviour associated with the reward mechanisms. The attention is paid to the study of 5-HT also in the consideration of possible preventive and therapeutic approach to drug dependence. Direct influence of 5-HT and ligands of individual 5-HT receptor subtypes in the brain is referred in association with the effects of many drugs with the high abuse potential, among others with methamphetamine (pervitine). Our current experimental study is concerning the 5-HT neurotransmitter system role during methamphetamine (METH) dependence and pr
