Description In AL-amyloidosis, monoclonal light chains produced by a pathological clone of plasma cells in the bone marrow are deposited in the form of amorphous material in various tissues. According to the literature, macroglossia is described in one quarter of patients. High-dose chemotherapy with melphalan followed by autologous peripheral stem cell transplantation has a key role in the treatment of AL-amyloidosis. In case of contraindication (age above 65 years, extensive disease), combination regimen of alkylating cytostatic (cyclophosphamide), bortezomib and glucocorticoid (dexamethasone) represents a therapy of choice.
