Description Paediatric septic shock is a frequently occurring disease condition that is associated with high morbidity and mortality. The early diagnosis of paediatric shock warrants a high index of suspicion and knowledge of disease conditions that predispose children to shock. The American College of Critical Care Medicine has published clinical guidelines for the haemodynamic support of children with septic shock. These guidelines advocate amongst others early recognition, adequate fluid resuscitation and timely and appropriate antibiotic therapy.
