Description Clinical manifestations of toxicity of a metallic intraocular foreign body may occur at a distance of many years after an eye injury. Secondary glaucoma leading to optic nerve atrophy and permanent changes in the visual field may have a greater negative effect on the resulting visual function than the initial injury itself. In case of an eye penetrating injury, careful targeted history and follow-up are necessary in prevention of late complications.
