Description A pregnant patient at ICU is always an extraordinary challenge for the intensivist and the whole team. The reason is specific physiological changes in pregnancy and specific emergencies, which occur only during this period. Last but not least, the presence of the fetus, which is to some extent dependent on the mother's health. With some simplification, we can say that we take care of two patients in one. Treatment for the benefit of the mother may at some point be to the detriment of the fetus and vice versa. One of the basic principles is that in critical situations, the health of the pregnant woman and her life has priority. In other words, a pregnant woman should not be "penalized" for being pregnant. Thus, all procedures, tests and treatments that are needed must be performed.
