Description	Pain in the landscape of the hip joint has a cause in many pathological processes. Differential diagnosis is very complex and lengthy. Avascular necrosis of the femoral head can be one of the possible causes of pain in young active individuals with a significant impact on their further life. This text summarizes current knowledge in etiopathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment of idiopathic avascular necrosis of the femoral head (AVN).
