Description Chronic venous insufficiency is an advanced chronic venous disease that, as a result of venous hypertension leads to specific changes in the skin or subcutaneous tissue of the lower extremities. Classification of CEAP provides a standardised classification of chronic venous disease. The basic diagnostic method is colour duplex ultrasonography, which allows functional and morphological conclusions regarding specific venous changes and possible differential diagnoses. Therapy of chronic venous insufficiency focuses on reducing or eliminating the underlying venous hypertension, both by conservative means, as well as invasive or surgical methods. Chronic venous disease, due to its high prevalence and increase with age and lifestyle, it is a problem affecting quality of life and represents a costly socio-economic problem for public health.
