| Description | Hyperkinetic Disorder (HKD) or ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) ranks among neurodevelopmental diseases. It concerns children of any age and in 40 to 60 % of cases endures into the adulthood. Its prevalence and clinical course represent an important socio- -economical problem and the management of this disease requires multidisciplinary cooperation. Aethiopatogenesis of this disease hypothesizes a disorder of corticothalamostriatocortical circuits and above all at the level of dopaminergic and noradrenergic neurotransmission. The occurrence of neurological and psychiatric comorbidities together with hyperkinetic disorder, such as obsessive-compulsive disorder, depression, tic disorder, headaches, abdominal pain, nocturnal enuresis and others is rather the rule. For this reason pacients are sent to the child neurologist who can play an important role in the diagnostic procedures, differential diagnosis and therapy of this disease. |
