Description An overview is presented of natriuretic peptides and their action in pathological conditions. The article describes the action and clinical use of nesiritide – a recombinant form of human B-type natriuretic peptide (hBNP) that is identical to endogenous B type natriuretic peptide (BNP). The therapeutic potential of omapatrilat, a novel endopeptidase inhibitor that prevents the degradation of natriuretic peptides, is also featured.
