Description On Thursday, 30 May the Surgical Department of the University Hospital Brno held an oncosurgical seminar for students, surgeons, oncologists and gastroenterologists. The theme of this meeting was an interdisciplinary collaboration in the treatment of patients with rectal cancer due to new knowledge and treatment options. The main topic of the seminar was prof. MD. Telekyho from the University of Vienna on "TME in rectal cancer, new trends in the interdisciplinary management". Prof. Teleky is the founder and president of the European Federation for colorectal cancer (EFR), which is engaged in research and postgraduate training in the diagnosis and treatment of colorectal cancer. It is a platform providing support for the development of clinical trials, which is based on cooperation multidisciplinary, international and multifactorial (www.efrcancer.org). The lecture was designed as an overview of the treatment of rectal cancer with highlighting major historical milestones with emphasis on the impact of the current strategy and treatment. He was given an overview of current standard and experimental treatment of previously known results. Finally, the implied trend direction multidisciplinary treatment in our region was indicated. The main benefit of seminar was discussion of current approaches to solving non-standard procedure for patients with complete remission of the cancer after neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy. Were discussed experiences with different modes preoperative oncological treatment, their benefits, and consequences of the current knowledge on the level of EBM. The communications revealed inconsistencies in procedure due to non-existent long-term results of studies on radical treatment or "watch and wait" strategy in the treatment of so-called complete response of rectal cancer. The discussions provided the current consensus in pursuit of a radical surgical approach with maximum respect conservative approach in the case of a clear desire informed patients requiring three months` oncological dispensary.
