| Description | Benign prostatic hyperplasia is a condition characterized by prostate enlargment accompanied by lower urinary tract symptoms. Although the aetiopathogenesis is not yet fully understood, it is clear that several mechanisms, reviewed in the article, are involved in the development and progression of the disease. Pathophysiology of benign prostatic hyperplasia is complex. Effective treatment requires understanding of various factors causing lower urinary tract symptoms. |
