Description Information technology is one of the fastest growing sectors of modern society and can be applied even in the medical laboratory practice. In our work, we focused on evaluating the results of agglutination reactions with the use of special software application Blot v1.0. Agglutination is the product of large number of serological reactions used in laboratory practice to evaluate wide range of antigens (bacterial, ...). We compared the visual and software-assisted evaluation of agglutination reactions. The aim of our work was to verify the ability of a PC program to reduce the number of errors in reading of samples, and to increase the reproducibility of the results. In the case of software evaluation there was a higher proportion of successfully established samples compared to visual evaluation, although the difference was not statistically significant in our study. We can conclude that the use of image analysis is especially important for certain types of serological methods, where we expect a lower level of the resulting agglutination. By using the program, we were able to speed up the reading of the results, standardize the final results, and reduce the number of errors due to visual, subjective evaluation.
